The EU Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC

All toys that are sold in the European Market must meet the standards set out in the EU Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC to ensure that the product is safe and fit for its purpose. Manufactures, retailers and importers are responsible to ensure that their products comply with the essential safety requirements stated in 2009/48/EC and undergo relevant testing according to the harmonized European toy safety standards to demonstrate their compliance accordingly.

REACH

The EU legislation concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization & Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) aims to provide high level protection for human health and the environment from the use of hazardous chemicals. REACH establishes a mandatory registration system for chemical substances that requires the traceability of chemicals and the identification of chemical substances within goods that are sold in the European market.

Toys and children’s products manufactures, distributors, retailers and importers are responsible for compliance and managing the risks associated with their chemical uses under the Annex XVII of REACH which contains the list of restrictions on certain hazardous substances, mixtures and articles for their marketing and use on the European market.
